PROPHETS OF ALLAH
PROPHET NUH
Prophet Nuh (AS) was the prophet sent from Allah, Allah in Quran has dedicated a whole surah (Surah Nuh) on him. Allah praised Nuh (AS) in Quran as “Grateful Servant of God” and “True Messenger of God”.
As years went by, people on Earth were practicing idolatry. Whenever one of the people died, Shaitaan would whisper in their ears to tell them to build statues to keep a remembrance and worship them. It was then, that Allah (s.w.t) sent the Prophet Nuh (AS) to guide his people back on Allah’s path. Patient, Nuh (AS) told his people not to worship anyone except Allah and the punishment of the Hellfire if they disobeyed. |

he poor people believed him but not the rich. The latter bargained with the poor and told Prophet Nuh (AS) to back off from his motive. However, Prophet Nuh (AS) refused them and provided logical reasons. Despite the continuous mockery and rejection, Prophet Nuh was persistent in calling his people to Islam for nine hundred and fifty years. But every generation that came to existence rejected Nuh as their fathers did. Each child that reached an age of understanding was clearly warned against the teachings of Prophet Nuh. Whenever the Prophet approached them they ran away from him. They found every excuse to escape from the presence of Nuh. Before long, Prophet Nuh realized that the number of disbelievers were rapidly on the rise, whilst the number of believers remained unchanged. He was very upset for his people and feared a terrible predicament for them, but he was left with no choice.
Allah soon revealed to Prophet Nuh that no other man from his people would enter Islam thereafter. Sad and frustrated, Prophet Nuh replied to Allah: “My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth. If you leave them, they will mislead Your slaves and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers.” Prophet Nuh’s prayer was accepted by his Lord. He instructed Prophet Nuh: “And construct the ark under Our Eyes and with Our Inspiration and address Me not on behalf of those who did wrong.”
Outside the city limits, away from the sea, Prophet Nuh began to build the ark through day and night with the support and guidance of the Angels. The construction of the ark continued amidst the constant mockery of the people. They jeered at Prophet Nuh saying: “O Nuh! Does carpentry appeal to you more than prophethood? Why are you building an ark so far from the sea? Are you going to drag it to the water or is the wind going to carry it for you?” Prophet Nuh answered: “You will come to know who will be put to shame and suffering.”
Allah then instructed to Nuh that when the oven at his home begins to gush forth water, collect the believers and board the ark for it was the first sign of the beginning of the floods that would destroy the disbelievers. Not long after, the terrible day dawned as water began gushing forth from the oven at Prophet Nuh’s house. Nuh knew it was time to board the ark. Along with the believers, Nuh also took with him pairs of animals, birds and insects. The people who witnessed Nuh’s peculiar behaviour laughed at him again saying: “Nuh must have gone out of his head! What is he going to do with the animals?”
Soon after, heavy rains began to pour down from the angry skies and water began to rise through every crack on earth. The water levels gradually began to rise and the oceans conquered the land. The once dry land was now completely submerged in water for the first time.
Prophet Nuh witnessed the terrible calamity that had befallen his people. He knew the disbelievers had no escape from the wrath of Allah. Amongst the disbelievers was Prophet Nuh’s wife and son who refused to board his ark. Nuh desperately called out to his son: “O my son! Embark with us and be not among the disbelievers.” The ignorant son of Nuh replied, “I will get to the mountain; it will save me from the water.” Nuh answered: “This day there is no saviour from the Decree of Allah except him on whom He has mercy.” Before long, Nuh’s son was engulfed by angry waves never to be seen again.
When every single disbeliever had perished, Allah ordered the skies and the earth: “O Earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold your rain.” The skies immediately cleared and the sun shone brightly on the land. Meanwhile, Nuh’s ark peacefully landed on Mount Judi. Allah instructed His Prophet: “O Nuh! Come down (from the ship) with peace from Us and blessings on you and on the people who are with you.”
As instructed, Prophet Nuh along with the believers got off the ark, releasing the rescued animals, birds and insects across the green land. Prophet Nuh, placed his forehead on the ground, prostrated to his Lord and thanked Him immensely for His mercy and blessings. The believers were grateful to Allah for safeguarding them from the terrible ordeal and observed a day of fasting as an act of gratitude to Allah. There are a total of 47 different instances where Allah directly refers to Prophet Noah.

PROPHET ADAM
Allah (SWT) created the first man, the Prophet Adam (AS), from clay and gave him knowledge of lot of things. Adam (A) was not like the other creations on Earth. He was a very special creation of Allah (SWT). Allah gave him a mind with which he could think and choose. He gave him a heart in order that he may feel and love. Allah (SWT) "Put onto him His own spirit." (15:29)
The Disobedience of Iblis: Allah’s special gift to Adam (A) was the gift of knowledge. He taught Adam things. He taught (A) many him the names of "all things." He gave Adam (A) a desire to learn. None of Allah’s (SWT) creations knew as much as Adam (A) did, not even His angels. He was very special to Allah (SWT). One day, Allah (SWT) asked the angels and the jinn to come and see Adam (A), His new creation. |
|
Allah (SWT) then asked the angels to bow down to Adam (AS) to show him respect and they all obeyed Allah(SWT)'s command. Iblis, who was a jinn among the angels did not obey Allah (SWT)'s command. He thought he was better than Adam (AS), because he was made out of fire and Adam (AS) was created out of clay. Iblis was too proud of himself and was stubborn. He didn't obey Allah(SWT)'s command.
Allah (SWT) is kind and merciful, but He does not like disobedience. Allah (SWT) was angry at Iblis and made him leave Jannah. Iblis had no choice. He had to leave. Before he left, he told Allah (SWT) that he would make Adam (A) and all his children disobey Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) said he could try, but the good people of Allah would never listen to him.
Allah (SWT) created all creatures on Earth in pairs. Allah (SWT) created another human being along with Adam (A), a woman named Hawwa. She was a beautiful and noble woman. Adam(A) and Hawwa lived in Jannah. They were both happy there. Allah (SWT) gave them everything that they wanted. Allah (SWT) told Adam (A) and Hawwa to eat any of the fruits and vegetables in Heaven, except for the fruits of one tree. Adam (A) and Hawwa were very careful to keep away from this forbidden tree. They wanted to obey Allah (SWT).
However, Iblis did not like Adam (A) and Hawwa. He thought it was Adam’s (A) fault that Allah had sent him away. He wanted to get Adam (A) and Hawwa kicked out of Heaven just like he had been. So he kept trying to make them disobey Allah (SWT). He told them if they ate the fruit of the forbidden tree, they would live forever. Finally one day, Adam (A) and Hawwa both decided to eat the fruit. They disobeyed Allah’s (SWT) commands. As soon as they tasted it, they both felt very sorry that they had listened to Iblis. They tried to hide in the woods and cover themselves. They felt very ashamed and did not want Allah to see them. But Allah (SWT) sees everything, and He knew what they had done. He ordered them both to leave Jannah. Jannah is only for those who obey’ Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) sent Adam (A) and Hawwa down to Earth. They prayed to Allah (SWT) to guide them. Allah is All Forgiving and He forgave them and guided them.
From the story of Adam( A), we learned that we should never listen to Shaitan and always follow Allah( SWT)'s teachings.

PROPHET AYUB
Prophet Ayyub was one of the descendants of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and a nephew of Prophet Ya'qub (peace be upon him). He was sent to reform the people who lived in the desert situated in the north eastern corner of Palestine.
When Ayyub (Job) was chosen to be the Prophet, he started to teach the people about God and His religion. He advised the people to do good and shun evil. As usual with all the Prophets very few people believed in him in the beginning but gradually the number of his followers began to increase. Prophet Ayyub was a prosperous man with firm faith in Allah. He possessed vast farms, enormous wealth, many cattle and valuable property but these things did not make him arrogant. His wealth provided him with a medium by means of which he sought Allah's grace |
|
Prophet Ayyub was a pattern of humility and faith in Allah. He was very patient. He suffered from a number of calamities but did not utter a single word of complaint. One day his big farm was attacked by the thieves. They killed many of his servants and carried away forcibly all his cattle. Prophet Ayyub did not feel sorry at this loss and thanked Allah. After some time the roof of the house fell down and many members of his family were crushed. Prophet Ayyub was much shocked but he held fast to his faith in Allah. He neither shed a tear nor heaved a sigh. He prostrated before the Almighty. He remarked that possessions and children were the gifts from Allah. If He had taken His things, it was useless to lament over their loss.
After a few years Prophet Ayyub suffered from skin disease. His parts of body were covered with loathsome sores. He had many ugly looking ulcers on his face and hands. The sores were full of worms. It is narrated that he picked up those worms which fell from his abscess and praised Allah for creating them. Above all, his false friends attributed his calamities to his sins. They ridiculed and looked down upon him. All the persons deserted him with the exception of his faithful wife, Rahima. She also grew tired of him in the long run and prayed for his death. She cursed her husband for retaining integrity in Allah. When Prophet Ayyub was in an extremely pathetic condition he prayed: "Truly adversity has afflicted me and You are Most Merciful of all who show mercy." (21: 83)
Allah accepted his prayer. The Holy Qur'an affirms: "Then We heard his prayer and removed that adversity from which he suffered, and We gave him his household and the like thereof along with them, a mercy from Our store and remembrance for the worshippers." (21: 84)
Allah turned to him with mercy. He was commanded to strike the earth with his foot. He complied with the order and water from the spring gushed forth. He took a bath with the water and got cured from his evil disease. After this he was restored to prosperity.
Prophet Ayyub knelt and prayed expressing a deep sense of gratitude to Allah. He never forgot His favors, mercy and love. His example illustrates: that those who remain patient under the stress · of all circumstances, art never deprived of high rewards. The Holy Qur'an affirms: "And surely we try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and crops, but give glad-tidings to the steadfast, who when a misfortune befalls them, say lo! we are Allah's (possession of Allah) and to Him shall we surely return. · Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly-guided." (2: 155-157)
